Samir is an active member of The British Moroccan Society and originally from Casablanca; where he attended school in nearby Mohammedia. He has been living in London for the past 35 years, but is a regular visitor back to Morocco to his holiday home there in Martil on the northern Mediteranean coast. He is a University lecturer, teaching Arabic as a foreign language and a professional translator. He is totally fluent in English, Arabic and French, so that, together with his detailed knowledge of Moroccoo and its culture will prove invaluable as our “unofficial” tour guide.
David is originally from Belfast in Northern Ireland, but has been living in London for 35 years since completing his studies at University of Cambridge. He is an architect with his own architectural practice in West London and has visited Morocco on many occasions, though has never travelled to the south – so is looking forward to the adventure. He has a lifelong passion in cars and has owned a number of classic cars over the years – but admits to having no mechanical knowledge; so no help whatsoever in the event of a breakdown!
Adrianne came to London 27 years ago from Toronto, Canada. Since then she has continued to look for challenges which have included staying married for the last 24 years, raising three sons who are now teenagers, competing in the Head of the Charles Rowing Regatta last year and now turning to the Rally for another physical and mental challenge. Adrianne has been to Morocco a number of times and is excited to be returning to see this beautiful country in a very new way. She has never driven in a rally before but hopes driving the streets of London might be some useful training! Adrianne is a psychologist and works as a psychotherapist in London
Natasha is a mother of three teenage boys from Chiswick in London and although well travelled throughout the world, has never visited Morocco. She trained and practised as a Chartered Surveyor before having children but has spent the last seven years working in the Wine Industry. Now with more time to spare and fast approaching 50, the idea of driving across the desert in Morocco is a very appealing mid life crisis along with the opportunity to raise money for the British Moroccan Society. Natasha loves driving but has no navigational skills or mechanical skills - who knows where she might end the journey!
Born in London in the 60’s and always having had a great sense of fun and adventure, I moved to Marrakech after meeting my future husband, Abdellatif (in a bar of course) in 1987. We have a wonderful son Adam, who is studying for a degree in the UK at the moment. I have seen a great many changes over the years, but love Morocco more and more with each passing year.
We have a guest house (Villa Dinari) just 12 km from Marrakech and I am a clothing designer and design and manufacture for a wonderful plus size company called Box2. Nicky, my co-driver owns that company and we decided to do this amazing adventure together.
We have supported the BMS for many years and now we are delighted to be doing something that we will love, but also helps others at the same time.
We are so excited to be doing this Rally and can’t wait for the end of April.
I was born 19.12 55 in Bromley, Kent.
Schooled in Hove, then college in Brighton, at 18 years went to live in Italy (holiday romance!).
I returned to the UK in 1982 to open clothes shop Box 2.
Married Colin and had 2 children Matthew now 28 and Georgia now 31.
Life became a tad mundane so in 2010 and I went trekking to Macchu Pichu raising funds for breast cancer, since then I managed to do two more charity walks in the UK of 20kms each in aid of the same charity.
I still run Box 2 and after a 15 year marriage to Steve and a 4 year relationship with Patrick, I am now single!!!
So time for another challenge, I have always loved visiting Marrakesh since I started working with Heather (Villa Dinari) five years ago, some years I have been there 5 times, work and play so what better than a rally (no more walking, too old!) to celebrate my 60th!
Mark has been living in Marrakech with his wife Katy and their 5 children for over a year now. Inspired by nature and excited by adventure sports, he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be involved in this great cause. Mark runs a digital marketing agency (AttwoodDigital.com) from Marrakech, with offices based in London and Manchester too. He has travelled a fair bit around Morocco but is hoping this rally will open his eyes up to new and untouched places in the Sahara.
It was Katy’s idea to move her family over to Morocco after spending some time at a retreat here. It was then that she fell in love with the country and hasn’t fallen out of love since. She hopes this rally will bring her closer to the nature and scenic landscapes of Morocco as well as feed her need for speed. After selling their previous business in the UK, Katy now works side-by-side with Mark running their digital marketing agency in Marrakech. Katy is fluent in more than 5 languages with Darija (the Moroccan Arabic) becoming her 8th language!
